How to Maintain Your Health After Ramadan

Articles 7 Jun 2018

Every year, the holy month of Ramadan gives us the opportunity to eliminate an unhealthy diet and keep the digestive system in need to rest. After the holy month of Ramadan is over and the Eid celebration is over, make sure the benefits you get are not in vain. How to do that? Let’s check it out!

1. Have 2-3 meals a day.

Make a habit of eating 2-3 times a day (similar to during Ramadan), than 6 small portions. The sensation of hunger between meals, contrary to popular belief, can be very beneficial to our physical health. According to a study published by PLOS ONE, the sensation of hunger can actually protect us from Alzheimer’s disease.

2. Eat dried fruits.

Continue eating dried fruits like you did during Ramadan. Dried dates and fruits are excellent sources of iron, fiber, and antioxidants that protect the body from harmful free radicals associated with aging. If you like sweets and have to consume dessert after a meal, try substituting a piece of chocolate cake with three dates.

3. Follow the 80/20 rule.

Try to obey the 80/20 rule and eat only until you’re 80% full. A good way to do this is to eat slowly, so you’ll notice your full level at mealtime. Eating while traveling or while watching television is a sure way to overeat and hinder your body’s ability to properly digest what you consume. During Ramadan, the fasting ritual allows us to consciously recognize the signals of our hunger and satiety. Therefore, avoid eating habits that are unwarranted and most importantly beware of overeating.

4. Take a probiotic supplement to maintain digestive health.

Consuming excessive sweets during Ramadan and at the time of Eid al-Fitr, may have taken a toll on your digestive system. Try consume probiotic supplements to fill the level of good bacterial bacteria in your intestines. Studies have shown that probiotics can also help colds and infections and improve the health and metabolism of women.

Always remember that health maximizes productivity in your life. Make your health a priority, treat it as a blessing and you will begin to see its tremendous benefits.
